Court interpreting requires familiarity with court systems and court etiquette in at least two administrations as well as the linguistic knowledge of specialist legal terminology. It is a highly skilled profession with considerable ethic responsibility.

In targeted training sessions with legal professionals, experienced court interpreters and senior in-house interpreters, candidates acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in the areas of:

• etiquette and conduct at court
• confidentiality, impartiality, integrity, professional limitations
• roles and boundaries of the court interpreter
• interface with judge, solicitors, Gardaí, clerks
• consultations outside the courtroom
• dealing with challenging situations
• reporting and debriefing
• safe keeping of documents.
